DrukCred: Digital Credential Platform

DrukCred proposes a secure credential platform for academic and professional records in Bhutan. The project addresses the practical problem of credential fraud and slow manual verification in education, hiring, onboarding, and public-service eligibility checks.

The prototype supports credential issuance, verification, and sharing. It uses decentralized identity concepts through Bhutan NDI, QR-based verification for relying parties, and privacy-controlled sharing so users can present credentials without exposing more information than necessary. The platform is designed around a simple workflow: an issuer creates a credential, a holder receives or manages it, and a verifier checks its validity through a trusted digital route.

The public-service value is in making credential verification faster and more reliable while giving individuals more control over how credentials are shared. Universities, training providers, employers, professional bodies, and agencies could use a system like DrukCred to reduce paper handling and improve confidence in records.

This proposal fits Bhutan’s digital public infrastructure context by combining trusted identity, user-held credentials, and accessible verification methods.
