Eco Ernesto Visita was created to address one of the Dominican Republic’s greatest challenges: protecting biodiversity and natural ecosystems while creating opportunities for local communities to thrive. We believe conservation succeeds when people understand, value, and benefit from nature.
As the first Dominican children’s book series focused on ecotourism, sustainability, and scientific learning, our project combines environmental education, community development, research, and storytelling to inspire long-term stewardship of natural resources. We work with children, families, educators, farmers, entrepreneurs, and local leaders, especially in rural communities located near important ecosystems and biodiversity hotspots.
Our model generates triple impact. Environmentally, we promote biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, climate awareness, and protection of threatened species. Socially, we strengthen literacy, environmental knowledge, cultural identity, and community participation. Economically, we support sustainable livelihoods by highlighting ecotourism, local products, entrepreneurship, and nature-based opportunities that benefit communities while protecting ecosystems.
To date, Eco Ernesto Visita has sold more than 100,000 books and reached over 200,000 families through educational programs, workshops, community activities, and partnerships. Our stories are based on scientific research and local knowledge, transforming complex environmental challenges into accessible learning experiences.
With support from the RestorLife Awards, we will expand our work in rural communities, develop new conservation-focused educational resources, strengthen ecosystem restoration awareness, and inspire a new generation of environmental leaders capable of protecting the Dominican Republic’s natural heritage for decades to come.
