Restoring Landscapes Through Community Action
Kithima Biodiversity Rehabilitation (KBR-CBO) emerged from a critical need: communities in Kenya's Meru and Tharaka regions were watching their land deteriorate. Deforestation, soil erosion, declining biodiversity, and climate impacts threatened the very ecosystems that farming families depend on for survival.
Our solution is simple yet powerful: community-led restoration. We partner with farmers, youth, and local leaders to transform degraded landscapes using nature-based solutions—tree planting, natural regeneration, community nurseries, and agroforestry expansion.
What makes this work is combining traditional knowledge with modern monitoring. We map landscapes, track restoration progress, and collect data that strengthens both environmental outcomes and climate action. Local communities aren't just participants; they become stewards of their own environment.
The results speak for themselves. Across multiple sites, we've helped communities increase tree cover, restore soil fertility, protect biodiversity, and build climate resilience. Families gain improved water access, stronger harvests, and sustainable livelihoods.
This isn't external intervention—it's communities reclaiming their landscapes. By investing in KBR-CBO, you're empowering local custodians to create healthier ecosystems and lasting restoration impact for generations to come.
