Ruta Monarca is an initiative of the National Foundation for the Conservation of Forest Habitat of the Monarch Butterfly, an NGO founded in 2000. We develop sustainable solutions to protect the winter habitat and migratory routes of this species against current threats. We implement the "Agroecological Pollinator Gardens" project, which restores ecosystems by providing shelter, food, and breeding areas for butterflies. This initiative has a strong social impact, driving environmental conservation and generating economic subsistence alternatives for rural communities along the migration route. Our work was recognized at the 2018 Premios Latinoamérica Verde and we were finalists for the UN Equatorial Prize in 2012. We are also proud members of the Global Rewilding Alliance.
