For 26 years, FUNACOMM has pioneered community-driven conservation along the North American monarch butterfly migratory route. Our mission was born from a profound childhood memory of a massive, shimmering orange cloud of monarchs enveloping our founder in Mexico, sparking a lifelong commitment to protect this vital 5,000-kilometer biological corridor.
Driven by the recent 90% decline in monarch populations and severe climate volatility, we engineered a scalable Nature-Based Solution: the Agroecological Pollinator Gardens Network. This holistic model restores degraded lands with resilient native flora, blending contemporary science with ancestral indigenous wisdom.
To date, we have built a living network of 220 agroecological gardens, restoring 18.5 hectares of core biological corridors across 5 Mexican states, while actively empowering women and youth as primary land stewards. Awarded First Place at the 2018 Premios Latinoamérica Verde and celebrated as a Finalist for the United Nations Equatorial Prize in 2022, FUNACOMM turns environmental urgency into long-term trinational resilience. With Ma Earth’s funding, we will expand our network, mass-produce 10,000 critical native plants, and technify our living laboratories to secure this ancestral flight forever.
