“Yayasan Rakan Kehidupan Lestari pioneers mangrove ecosystem restoration in the coastal areas of Lhokseumawe, Aceh, as a dedicated response to the escalating threats of coastal erosion and climate-induced instability. Our project, currently centered on a vital 0.31-hectare pilot site in Desa Kuala, integrates traditional local wisdom with modern, nature-based restoration techniques.
A core innovation of our initiative is the deployment of sustainable, locally-sourced bamboo breakwaters. These structures effectively mitigate wave energy, creating calm micro-habitats that significantly reduce seedling mortality and foster the successful growth of mangrove saplings. Beyond the technical aspects of restoration, we deeply believe that conservation is a sacred trust (amanah) and a profound act of stewardship (ihsan).
Our work is fundamentally rooted in community mobilization. We actively empower traditional fishermen networks, local youth fellowships, and women’s groups, transforming them into the primary guardians of their native coastal buffer zones. By bridging practical ecological actions with values-based environmental education, we are fostering a deep-rooted sense of collective responsibility across generations.
Through this inclusive and holistic collaboration, we aim to establish a scalable, sustainable conservation model where ecological balance (mizan) and social welfare grow in tandem. We are not merely planting trees; we are building a robust, climate-resilient framework for the wider region of Lhokseumawe, ensuring that our coastal landscapes remain productive, protected, and vibrant for the future."
