The Binshua watersheds is located in Donga Mantung Division of the Northwest Region of Cameroon. The whole watershed covers an estimated area of over 50 to 500 ha. The current land which we have earmarked to restore and conserve covers over 50ha. This land is the main watersheds where the community have harnessed water and built a solar system that is providing clean water to the village. Unfortunately, the watershed is exposed to grazing and farmland.
Our goal is to empower the community to plant trees in the whole watershed and fence it to prevent stray animals. The trees to be planted are mostly agroforestry and fruit trees. Also, the caretakers shall be empowered to install bee hives in this area for income generating so as to motivate them to always visit to protect the watershed.
The funds shall be used to empower local nursery growers to nurse variety of indigenous trees, transport the trees to the site, purchase barb wires and poles for fencing.
One of our main challenge is lack of a 4WD for local transportation of materials and supplies to the sites.
