Care for the Tierra Blanca
In Hereford, Texas—the "Beef Capital of the World"—the Tierra Blanca Creek has sustained communities for generations. Today, this vital watershed faces a crisis. The Ogallala Aquifer is depleting rapidly, while the Texas Panhandle battles escalating droughts, floods, and wildfires. Without action, both the ecosystem and the communities depending on it are at risk.
A Community-Powered Solution
Starting fall 2026, the Care for the Tierra Blanca project will mobilize volunteers for hands-on restoration work. Monthly Creek Care Field Days will engage the community in practical conservation activities and watershed education, building local stewardship and deepening connections to the landscape.
The project peaks in February 2027 with an intensive restoration week. A dedicated crew will construct leaky dams and nature-based structures designed to slow water runoff, increase soil infiltration, and strengthen riparian ecosystems. These simple yet powerful interventions combat erosion and boost water security.
Your Impact
Funds support project coordination, crew stipends, materials, training, and restoration infrastructure. By investing in Tierra Blanca, you're helping build community resilience and practical solutions to water challenges—proving that people-powered conservation can shape a more sustainable future.
