Mother Earth Initiative started after seeing the environmental challenges many communities in Malawi are facing, including deforestation, waste pollution, soil degradation, and the effects of climate change on people’s daily lives. Many areas continue to lose trees, experience poor waste management, and struggle with environmental awareness, especially among young people and rural communities. This inspired us to take action through practical solutions that communities can be part of directly. Our work focuses on tree planting, waste management, regenerative agriculture, mushroom production, and environmental education. Through our 365 Days Tree Planting Challenge, we work with schools, youth groups, and local communities to plant and care for trees while encouraging environmental responsibility and climate resilience. We also promote sustainable practices such as composting, recycling, organic farming, and reusing plastic waste to create useful materials like school benches. These activities help reduce pollution while also supporting livelihoods and community development. Over the next year, we hope to restore more degraded spaces, increase tree survival, reduce waste in communities, and empower more young people to become active environmental stewards. We believe real change begins with consistent community action, and we are committed to building a greener and more sustainable Malawi for future generations.
