Restoring Cebu's Forests, Protecting Communities
Cebu's forests have vanished. Once verdant landscapes have dwindled from 50% forest cover to a mere 2% due to centuries of colonization, modernization, and agricultural expansion. When Typhoon Kalmaeigi devastated communities with catastrophic landslides and floods in 2025, the urgent need for watershed restoration became undeniable.
Puso Sanctuary is stepping up to protect vulnerable communities through ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation. We're building a bioregional learning center where frontline communities and their advocates can access vital knowledge and practical solutions.
Our vision extends beyond a single facility. We've also launched a multistakeholder ecosystem fostering collaborations between government, civil society, and business sectors to scale watershed solutions across the region.
This fundraising campaign launches our learning center's foundation. We're seeking support to complete our site assessment, analysis, and design work—establishing the infrastructure for water, energy, and sustainable structures that will enable transformative learning activities.
Together, we can restore Cebu's ecological health and build community resilience for generations to come.
