ConVerTec emerged in response to the growing problem of the accumulation and inadequate management of organic solid waste, which presents an environmental, social, and health challenge, but also an opportunity for its valorization under circular economy and sustainable development approaches. The project aims to design and implement a comprehensive model for the utilization and transformation of this waste through four strategic pillars: diagnosis, research, education, and knowledge transfer. These pillars allow for addressing its management from a scientific, educational, and applied perspective. The project's name refers to the use of composting and vermicomposting techniques, as well as technologies to transform organic waste into beneficial soil amendments, pet food (Petbriz), and seed bombs for the reforestation of native species. To achieve its objectives, ConVerTec will seek partnerships with schools in the municipality of Libres, Puebla. Through training and the transfer of knowledge accumulated over more than four years in the management of organic solid waste, the project will aim to cultivate responsible stakeholders in the management of their waste. As a result, the project will contribute to waste reduction, improved soil health, the strengthening of local capacities, and the generation of replicable solutions that promote sustainable practices aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
