Protecting Cloud Forests in Colombia's Andes
Deep in southern Colombia's Sibundoy Valley, where cloud forests meet mountain grasslands, lies Casa del Oso Nature Reserve, home to the spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus). This 64-hectare sanctuary—part of Fundación Kindicocha's Alto Putumayo Botanical Garden initiative—protects 61 hectares of pristine Andean forest while 2.5 hectares of grassland await restoration.
Your support directly advances critical conservation work: expanding the botanical garden's ecological corridor, regenerating degraded grasslands, and nurturing frailejón ecosystems. These remarkable páramo plants literally transform clouds into water, sustaining life across the high Andes and cloud forests below.
Every donation brings us closer to two essential goals. First, we'll restore the grasslands and expand native forest habitat, creating vital wildlife corridors. Second, with sufficient funding, we'll upgrade the park ranger station—a crucial outpost accessed only by a challenging seven-hour trek.
Help us protect this irreplaceable landscape where nature's magic happens at the clouds' edge.
