About Blue Forests Foundation (Yayasan Hutan Biru)
Blue Forests Foundation was established in response to the degradation of Indonesia’s coastal ecosystems caused by unsustainable resource use, land conversion, and weak environmental governance. Since 2000, we have worked to strengthen the connection between healthy ecosystems and resilient communities.
We address challenges such as mangrove loss, coastal erosion, biodiversity decline, and climate change impacts through integrated approaches including Ecological Mangrove Rehabilitation (EMR), Integrated Mangrove and Sustainable Aquaculture (IMSA), Coastal Field Schools (CFS), and Participatory Action Research (PAR).
By combining local knowledge with scientific evidence, we develop practical solutions that restore ecosystems while improving community livelihoods. We believe communities are not beneficiaries, but key actors in protecting and sustaining their natural resources.
