PurposeFlow Living

PurposeFlow Living is an NGO in the Alentejo, Portugal, one of Europe's most arid regions, facing a projected 4.3°C temperature rise by 2100. Our 6-he land was degraded by intensive wheat farming and decades of overgrazing. By 2021: severely compacted soil, near-zero water infiltration, no native vegetation. The failure of 6,000 seedlings in their first summer confirmed the depth of this and shaped our approach: restore water and soil function first, then revegetate. Since then we have implemented hundreds of earthworks, soil-building structures, and native seed propagation. Led by Anthony Ryan and Ana Carrero, alongside a rotating community of over 600 volunteers from 110+ countries, we are building a space where people can learn to live in harmony with nature, practicing stewardship of self, community, and land together. We are not perfect, but we show up with honesty and care, knowing that regeneration is a long and deeply human process and that it is the solution for the future.
