Ogallala Commons (OC) is a nonprofit education and leadership organization working to strengthen rural communities across the Great Plains through Workforce & Leadership Development, Stewarding Natural Resources, and Rebuilding Local Food Systems. Grounded in an asset-based approach to community development, OC helps people invest in the unique resources of their home communities. Founded as an independent nonprofit in 2023, Ogallala Life pioneered community-led watershed restoration efforts across the Texas Panhandle. In late 2025, OC acquired and integrated Ogallala Life, expanding its capacity and long-term impact. Ogallala Life has constructed hundreds of leaky dams and other low-tech restoration structures across the Canadian River watershed, empowering communities sustained by the Ogallala Aquifer to rehydrate landscapes, improve watershed function, and build resilience to drought, flooding, and wildfire.
