We're a youth-led Ugandan organization advancing climate resilience, ecosystem restoration, sustainable agriculture, and livelihoods through beekeeping, agroforestry, environmental education, and community-led nature-based solutions.
Munansi Green Initiative (MGI) is a youth-led environmental and community development organization based in Uganda, dedicated to advancing climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, sustainable agriculture, ecosystem restoration, and socio-economic empowerment through nature-based solutions. Founded to address the growing challenges of climate change, environmental degradation, biodiversity loss, and youth unemployment, MGI works with local communities, farmers, women, schools, and young people to develop sustainable solutions that improve livelihoods while restoring and protecting ecosystems. Our flagship program, Munansi Hives, promotes sustainable beekeeping and pollinator conservation by supporting farmers and youth with training, capacity building, modern beekeeping equipment, and market linkages. Through this initiative, we protect wild bee populations, enhance pollination services, improve food security, increase household incomes, and strengthen community resilience to climate change. MGI also implements landscape restoration and agroforestry projects, including food and fruit forests in schools and communities, environmental education programs, school environment clubs, climate awareness campaigns, and youth-led climate advocacy initiatives. These interventions improve biodiversity, restore degraded landscapes, enhance nutrition, and provide practical environmental learning opportunities for future generations. To date, MGI has supported more than 30 beekeeping farmers through its association model, established community and school-based restoration initiatives benefiting hundreds of learners and community members, and mobilized women and youth through savings groups, entrepreneurship training, and environmental stewardship programs. The organization actively participates in local, national, regional, and global platforms on climate action and sustainable development, representing community voices and promoting locally led solutions. MGI has engaged in major international forums including United Nations processes, climate conferences, youth summits, and development dialogues. Our work contributes directly to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land). Through strategic partnerships, innovation, and community ownership, Munansi Green Initiative seeks to build resilient communities, restore ecosystems, create sustainable livelihoods, and inspire a new generation of environmental leaders across Uganda and beyond.
